Our method
How Unhype works
The useful version of ‘independent’ is specific: where the data comes from, how results are ordered, what money can change, and where the method is incomplete.
Updated 11 October 2026
Where clinic information comes from
Treatments, prices, opening hours, addresses and clinic descriptions are researched from clinic-owned websites. If a clinic does not publish a price, we say so rather than infer one from another location or a third-party booking directory.
Practitioner registration is checked against the AHPRA public register when an unambiguous match is available. Google ratings and review excerpts are attributed to Google. Review excerpts are not rewritten to change their meaning.
How Recommended ranking works
The default Recommended order is a comparison score calculated within the current result set. It is not a clinical quality rating and does not predict a treatment outcome.
60%
Google rating, adjusted for review count
We use a Bayesian adjustment so a 5.0 based on a handful of reviews does not automatically outrank a slightly lower score backed by hundreds of reviews.
25%
Published price coverage
Clinics receive more credit when the relevant treatments have usable public prices. Five priced treatments receive the full price score; narrow specialists are not penalised when they price their complete menu.
15%
AHPRA-registered practitioners
Named practitioners with an AHPRA number contribute to the score. The first verified practitioner carries most of this signal and two receive full credit.
Ties are resolved by review count and then clinic name so the order remains stable. Users can also choose direct sorts such as rating or review count where offered.
Known limitations
Price and practitioner signals partly reflect how complete our research is. A clinic may offer transparent prices or employ registered practitioners that we have not yet found. That can place a useful clinic lower than it deserves. Missing data means “not verified by Unhype yet”, not necessarily “not offered”.
Google reviews are third-party opinions, not Unhype reviews. High average ratings are common in this category, which is why review count is considered and why we show other decision signals alongside stars.
How Unhype makes money
Consumers do not pay to search or compare clinics. Unhype may earn revenue from clearly labelled sponsored content or separate services for clinics and practitioners, such as profile and enquiry tools. Payment does not buy a listing, a higher Recommended position, a credential badge or removal of accurate information.
Updates and corrections
Public information changes, and no directory is complete at every moment. We recheck sources as profiles are researched or refreshed. Clinics and readers can submit a correction to hello@unhype.com.au; including a clinic-owned source helps us verify it quickly. Corrections are reviewed on evidence, whether or not the clinic is a customer.
